STATEMENT
For the majority of my life I have lived in rural areas. Nature has
become the inherent focus of my work as a result of continued nostalgia
brought about by living and working in the city. I invent landscapes drawn
from memory with a language of repetitive marks and forms, representations
of trees, leaves, grass, flowers, etc. Using a mud-like mixture of beeswax
and oil paint, I often tend to work the canvas with forks, knives and
brushes to create texture and organic surfaces.
My latest series of paintings stem from a trip across country where I made
pastel drawings at night by the limited lighting of a campfire. The result
was that the colors were created only from the basis of what I saw as
contrast. These paintings are loose renditions of those drawings.
