ARTIST BIO

William Buchanan received his bachelor of arts in Fine Arts From LeMoyne Owen College in Memphis Tennessee, in addition to his studies at Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi. He studied painting, drawing and design at the Peninsula School of Arts in Door County, Wisconsin (University of Wisconsin at Green Bay Ext.).




William's work has been showcased in numerous solo and group exhibitions as well as private and public collections throughout the nation. Such as the Atlanta Life Insurance Co., Atlanta, GA; City Gallery East, Atlanta, GA; Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia, Atlanta, GA; M. Hawks Gallery, Santa Monica, CA.; University of Texas at Tyler, Tyler, TX; Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago, IL; The Indianapolis Art Center, Indianapolis, Indiana; Ward Nasse Art Gallery, New York, NY; and 620 Gallery, Charlotte, NC.




He is also the recipient of two Ambridge Center Fellowships.

 
STATEMENT

My works are surreal and whimsical statements of concern about many of todayys social issues. I also create silent mysterious landscapes where events of the outer world meet the inner world, and where the art is produced out of a desire to contemplate meanings and seek spiritual inspiration.
