ARTIST BIO

Brian was born in 1968, began painting at age 5, and has continually created works of art with impact since his youth. His natural gift was recognized and encouraged by art professionals in Chicago. He attended the School of the Art Institute. Inspiration and leadership amongst his peers was evident, as well. Bryan founded several venues in Chicago that were said to be a "cutting edge","visceral", and well attended: Art Attack, Hep-House, and Sperry Studio to name a few. He was the original founder and main force behind Pilsen Art Nation, which originated the 2nd Friday Art Walk in the Chicago Pilsen neighborhood.

Additional galleries that Sperry has shown in include:

Open Door Gallery
Humility Gallery
Corrosive Gallery
Mars Gallery
Eastwick Gallery
Blake Palmer Gallery

More recently Sperry's involvement with "Cool Globes" resulted in a rigorous selection of his globe that will travel around the country and appear in several public displays. Moreover, his contribution to the project resulted in the publication of an entire book of the involved artists work and also attracted the attention of Chicagos Mayor Daley.

As a passionate and driven artist, Sperry has become quite prolific. Several hundred works such as his abstract and figurative paintings, recently accompanied by uniquely energetic, small and large scale found object sculpture, have culminated in a risk-taking approach to visual expression that continues to evoke response in observers on a deep and profound level. His work continues to be acquired by private collectors locally, nationally, and internationally.

STATEMENT

My art depicts a theme of alienation throughout. Strong lines evoke order. Formulated, robotic and often industrial; masks, figures and sculptures dominate the senses yet are slightly juxtaposed by a whimsical line, facial expression or gesture for human emphasis. The combination of these elements result in an expressionistic edginess and contemporary slant on truth and beauty.
