Artist Statement
I feel I can best achieve both my aesthetic and conceptual goals through paint. Its versatility in texture and color makes it the perfect medium for my developing artistic practice. Altho mixed media painting has also been an area of interest for me, because of its range of new possibilities. Artists like Anselm Kiefer and Antoni Tapies are influential in this area of my practice. My work in sculpture, drawing, and in painting show an interest in material and its interaction with its surroundings. I want to better understand this.

A few artists I am very inspired by are: Rembrandt, his use of impasto and his unique way of implying details; the color and temperature pallets of Lucian Freud; Colin Kent's collage and intense application of materials; Ralph Steadman's treatment of line and ink; Cindy Bernhard, a young sculptor and painter who experiments with the application of tar and acetate on her watercolor paintings; and just for lists sake a few more. Ben Tour, Jen Rosenthal, J. M. W. Turner, Wayne Tebow, David Hockney, Richard Diebenkorn, Odd Nerdrum, Claude Monet, Giorgio Morandi, Jenny Saville, Marino Marini, David A. Leffel, Henri Fantin Latour, Norman Rockwell, Julius Paulsen

I make art without explicit narrative or clear detail to give my viewers a chance to guess and question the purpose behind the piece, But also to give them a hand in the process because in my opinion that is the most important part. As I am painting or viewing a piece of artwork I can forget about everything happening around me and just immerse myself in this fixed point in time. How the textures and the colors interact to create a mood what one thing looks like with or without another. It's all about this one solid moment.

Biography
I was born and raised in Pilsen. I had my first professional show in 2011 at the 41st Annual Pilsen East Artists' Open House and was lucky enough to come back in 2012. I am studying at the Chicago High School for the Arts starting my junior year with my major of painting and drawing and an elective in material studies. Since the 42nd Annual Pilsen East Artists' Open House I have been in six shows with Charts and participated in a couple of events and competitions with the Art Institute of Chicago.
